What is so special about the Libingan ng mga Bayani anyway?
What is so special about the Libingan ng mga Bayani anyway?Whats the point in all of these anyway? Me and my family is not a victim of the Marcos regime, nor has any of my relatives been deliberately executed during the Martial Law era, but how do you think will people (who were victims, or relatives of victims) would react to such a request?
1. Ferdinand Marcos, the man who reportedly gave the Philippines a First World status during his time, is also the man who:
a. declared Martial Law
b. responsible for millions of dollars laundered into secret swiss accounts
c. placed the country into its worst budget deficit, even the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas declared bankruptcy (wtf?)
d. responsible for extra judicial killings
Yeah, he was a good leader, possibly the greatest president because no one could be at par with his acheivements. BUT, he was also responsible for a lot of wrongdoings during his time. Why would we now listen to the outcry of his family to burry him at the Libingan ng mga Bayani? Or even consider a burial with full military honors for this man? Burrying him at the Libingan ng mga Bayani would not vindicate him of all the allegations thrown at his family or his regime.
2. This article speaks for itself. Why is Mrs. Marcos scared? She should be. Dont you think, after all these years, now is the worst time to push for such request. The president is Noynoy AQUINO. The son of the martyr who DIED DURING THE MARCOS REGIME. No human being, with this kind of background, will set aside his personal vendetta and favor such a request. If a man or his family, suspected to be behind the assasination of you father, is asking you a favor 2 decades after, will you favor their request? or even try listening? I dont think so.
3. I believe that this issue is more of a political issue: Ferdinand Marcos given the honor said to be “due” to him, the Marcoses rising up in power again, I strongly believe that theres more than what meets the eye. What is their personal agenda? Only time will tell, around 2016 maybe.
I hope the Marcoses find peace and let Ferdinand Marcos rest in peace. You dont have to be burried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani to be considered a hero. There are millions of unsung heroes out there, and yet they are honored everyday. Receiving honor is not restricted to uniformed soldiers accompanying the dead to the grave and a couple of gun shots fired before the burial. A greater honor is simply being remembered as the person that you were, the lives you’ve touched, and the amount of faith that you had towards your creator.
